(Web Desk): China’s BYD is launching Denza B5, Denza B8 and Sealion 6 in Pakistan for a major hybrid SUV expansion. Luxury features and prices revealed.

Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD is planning to introduce three new plug-in hybrid electric vehicles in Pakistan. The upcoming lineup includes the Denza B5, Denza B8 and Sealion 6 SUVs.

Recent industry reports revealed that demo units of these vehicles have already arrived in Pakistan for testing and evaluation. The move signals BYD’s aggressive entry into Pakistan’s fast-growing hybrid and electric vehicle market.

Denza B5

The Denza B5 is expected to arrive as a powerful mid-size hybrid SUV with premium features. It uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged hybrid engine producing around 536 horsepower and 760 Nm torque.

The SUV can reportedly travel nearly 100 km on electric power alone under NEDC testing standards. Market experts believe the B5 could compete with luxury SUVs already popular in Pakistan.

Denza was originally launched as a partnership between BYD and Mercedes-Benz. It now operates as BYD’s premium luxury brand focused on advanced technology and high-end vehicles.

Denza B8

The larger Denza B8 is expected to target buyers looking for a full-size luxury family SUV. Reports suggest it will offer seating for up to seven passengers with premium interior features.

The SUV reportedly carries a 2.0-litre turbocharged plug-in hybrid setup producing around 569 hp and 760 Nm torque. It also features a 36.8 kWh battery pack with an electric-only range of nearly 115 km.

Industry observers believe the B8 may become one of the most advanced SUVs in Pakistan after launch. Advanced suspension systems and luxury-focused cabin technology are also expected in the vehicle.

Sealion 6

The BYD Sealion 6 is likely to become the company’s mainstream hybrid crossover in Pakistan. The SUV comes with a 1.5-litre turbocharged plug-in hybrid system producing 319 hp and 550 Nm torque.

Reports suggest the Sealion 6 can travel around 70 km using only electric power. Analysts expect it to compete with hybrid SUVs already attracting Pakistani buyers due to rising fuel costs.

Prices

BYD’s premium Denza brand has opened orders for its B5 and B8, a pair of large plug-in hybrid off-road SUVs.

The B5, slightly smaller than a Toyota Prado and offering only five seats, is priced from $74,990 before on-road costs – $2490 more than a base Prado GX.

In top-spec Leopard trim, it costs $79,990 before on-roads; Leopard appears to be a nod to the fact the B5 and B8 are actually borrowed from BYD’s Fangchengbao brand, which roughly translates to ‘formula leopard’.

The B8, which has a slightly larger footprint than a Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series, opens at $91,000 before on-road costs. Opting for a more luxurious six-seat configuration brings the price up to $97,990 before on-road costs.

Plan

BYD is also planning to start local assembly operations in Pakistan around July-August 2026. The company hopes local production will reduce vehicle prices and improve after-sales services for customers.

Reports indicate the assembly plant near Karachi may start operations in the third quarter of 2026. The facility is reportedly being developed with Mega Motor Company, a subsidiary of Hub Power Company.

Industry sources say the plant could produce nearly 25,000 vehicles annually. This expansion may strengthen Pakistan’s shift toward hybrid and electric mobility in coming years.

BYD appears ready to expand aggressively in Pakistan’s SUV market. Local assembly could make hybrid vehicles more affordable for buyers.

The launch of Denza and Sealion models may also increase competition among hybrid SUV brands. Rising fuel prices are already pushing many consumers toward hybrid technology.
