Punjab govt decides to launch EV taxi programme
LAHORE (Web Desk): The Punjab government has expressed its intention to launch an electric taxi service in the province.

After observing the success of Electric Vehicle (EV) taxi programme in China, the Punjab government decided to introduce an electric taxi service across the province. The purpose of launching this groundbreaking programme is to address the environmental and economic challenges and shift to climate friendly technology.

Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan will oversee the project.

According to details, with the cooperation of prominent electric vehicle manufacturers, the Transport Department has started preparations for realising the programme. These collaborations will play a key role to bring this initiative to fruition.

The programme will be implemented phase-wise, starting in Lahore and divisional headquarters. The phases will expand the service to other major cities.

The programme will offer easy payment options for drivers to enhance participation and make electric vehicle ownership easy. This initiative will support individuals to join the services and foster the adoption of environment friendly vehicles.

In response to combating smog, this initiative will cause reduction in air pollution in urban areas. The provincial government aims to significantly reduce air pollution and its pernicious impacts on public health. In addition, this programme is likely to generate new job opportunities in the transportation sector.
