The Livestock & Dairy Development Department has begun providing low-cost high-quality cattle semen to help farmers upgrade low-yielding animals and improve overall milk output across Faisalabad division.
Director Livestock Dr. Nadeem Badar said the initiative, already active across Punjab, aims to support small and medium-scale farmers by making superior breeding options reachable through cost-effective services.
He noted that the Punjab government’s effort carries strong economic value, helping farmers stabilize incomes while encouraging modern breeding systems in the region.
According to Dr. Badar, the availability of high-quality semen will not only raise genetic standards but also create a clear increase in milk production, urging farmers to take full advantage of the facility for long-term benefit.
Under the program, “high-quality Friesian semen is being provided at Rs150 per dose while Brahman semen is available at Rs500”, making advanced breeding more accessible for many livestock owners.

To qualify for the service, cattle must meet certain conditions such as a daily milk yield of at least three to five liters, freedom from physical or reproductive diseases, full reproductive maturity, and at least one previous calving.
Farmers were reminded to use certified semen only, as improved breeds can significantly increase milk output over the coming years.
For services, farmers may visit their nearest veterinary hospital, while the LDDD’s free 24/7 helpline “08000-9211” is available for guidance.
This scheme aims to help farmers get better cattle at a low cost. Better breeds mean more milk and stronger income in the future. The government wants farmers to adopt modern breeding so they can improve their herds safely and steadily.
The low-cost cattle semen programme is a government initiative that offers high-quality cattle semen at very affordable prices so farmers can improve the genetic quality of their cows.
Here’s what it means in simple words:
Farmers often have cows that produce very little milk.
High-quality breeds can produce much more, but buying such animals is expensive.
Instead, the government provides superior semen at low prices so farmers can breed their cows with better genetics.
Over time, the next generation of calves becomes stronger, healthier, and produces more milk.
This programme helps small and medium farmers grow their income without spending much money. It improves milk production in the long run and modernizes local livestock practices.
