(Web Desk): The Federal Board of Revenue may extend the last date for filing tax returns following a request made by the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

According to RCCI President Usman Shaukat, the FBR’s online system ‘Iris’ has been facing repeated slowdowns due to heavy online traffic. He noted that taxpayers are struggling to file returns smoothly.

He added that the closure of banks and other institutions on weekends has made it harder for taxpayers to collect important documents and complete banking requirements on time.

The RCCI has urged the FBR to take immediate notice of these issues and extend the tax deadline to facilitate business owners and citizens. The final decision now rests with the FBR.

The demand from RCCI reflects the growing frustration of taxpayers. Technical glitches and banking closures are creating hurdles. If FBR extends the deadline, it will ease pressure, but failure to act may spark wider criticism from the business community.

“System glitches and slowness complaints are continuously being reported by members and traders,” he said.

Usman Shaukat further pointed out that recent flash floods and heavy monsoon rains had disrupted internet and telecom services across many areas, worsening the situation for filers who rely solely on online platforms.

The RCCI President reminded the FBR that similar extensions had been granted in the past under comparable circumstances.

“Providing relief at this juncture would not only facilitate taxpayers but also encourage compliance, support economic documentation, and strengthen revenue collection,” he added.
