(Web desk): U.S. President Donald Trump has canceled his upcoming visit to India for the Quad Summit amid growing strain in ties with New Delhi.

In a recent development, U.S. President Donald Trump has decided not to travel to India this fall for the Quad Summit, according to The New York Times. The decision comes at a time when relations between the U.S. and India are becoming increasingly strained.

Trump had earlier confirmed his participation to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but that plan has now changed. The reason behind the cancellation appears to be tied to rising trade tensions.

The U.S. has imposed a 50% tariff on Indian goods split between a 25% reciprocal tariff and an extra 25% penalty for India’s ongoing oil trade with Russia.

This move has added stress to what was once considered a strong partnership between the two countries. Diplomatic experts believe the cancellation is not just a matter of scheduling but a sign of deeper issues.

President Trump s earlier remarks claiming he helped mediate peace between India and Pakistan, along with a comment about deserving the Nobel Prize, reportedly upset Modi, making the situation more personal.

The impact could be far-reaching. The Quad Summit, which is a key regional meeting between the U.S., India, Japan, and Australia, now faces uncertainty. Analysts say this may push India to strengthen ties with other global powers like China and Russia, which could shift strategic balances in the Indo-Pacific region.
