
In a formal statement, Palestinian leaders emphasized that such an agreement would not only cease hostilities in Gaza but also set the stage for halting the occupation of Gaza, the West Bank, and other Palestinian lands. The announcement also emphasized Palestine s dream of creating an independent and sovereign state that would enjoy friendly and secure relations with Israel. The announcement also reaffirmed the pledges of the recent international conference in New York.
In the terms of the proposed deal, Palestine has committed to finishing its reform program, such as conducting presidential and parliamentary elections within a year once the war is over. All candidates, the announcement continued, are required to respect international commitments and the policies of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), promoting unity under the concept of "one system, one law, and one Palestinian security force."

Looking forward, Palestinian officials set out plans to establish a modern, democratic and non-militarized state on the basis of the peaceful transfer of authority. Within two years, the arrangement also foresees initiating a curriculum reform process in line with UNESCO norms to update education and foster universal values.
The officials emphasized that the peace agenda could represent a watershed in attaining stability and security for the Palestinian people and the region at large.
