Posting on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump stressed that the United States would never abandoned the strategic air base.
"If Afghanistan doesn t give Bagram Airbase back to those that built it, the United States of America, BAD THINGS ARE GOING TO HAPPEN!!!" he wrote in a post to Truth Social.
The Bagram Air Base, once the centerpiece of U.S. operations in Afghanistan, fell into Taliban control following the American troop withdrawal in 2021. Since then, Washington has repeatedly emphasized the site’s critical military and strategic significance in the region.
“If the base is not returned, it will be intolerable for the United States,” Trump declared, without elaborating on what actions might follow.
According to foreign media reports, both the Taliban and Afghan officials immediately rejected Trump’s demand. Afghan government sources stated that while Kabul remains open to dialogue, it will “never allow foreign troops to be stationed in Central Asia again.”
Defense analysts have also weighed in, highlighting that restoring U.S. control over Bagram would be an extraordinarily difficult and costly undertaking. They noted that it would require significant military resources, long-term defense planning, and a major regional strategy shift.

Meanwhile, addressing a gathering in Virginia, Trump touted his presidential record, claiming he had prevented “seven major wars,” including a potential conflict between Israel and Iran. He also criticized European nations for continuing to purchase oil from Russia and credited his tariffs policy for bringing substantial economic benefits to the U.S.
Trump’s latest remarks signal that the debate over America’s role in Afghanistan and its abandoned bases is far from over, particularly as the 2025 U.S. elections draw closer.
