Security sources say India is targeting its own citizens and Sikhs to warm up a new frontline against Pakistan. Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s anniversary will be observed on June 30, but the Modi government has barred Sikhs from traveling to Pakistan for the commemoration.
Since May 7, 2025, India has prohibited Sikh pilgrims from entering Pakistan. It has also closed the Kartarpur Corridor, offending Sikh religious sentiments. During this period of Indian aggression, India attacked Sikh-majority areas and even tried to damage their places of worship.
Security officials also stated that India fired missiles near Amritsar to provoke Sikhs against Pakistan. It allegedly attempted a drone strike on the holy site of Nankana Sahib and tried to blame Pakistan for this attack. If we analyze the history of Indian state regarding Sikhs, India has many times played on anti-Sikh feelings and sentiments.
Whereas defense experts say Prime Minister Modi’s loathsome attitude has not only targeted Muslims but also made life difficult for Sikhs. It must be remembered that under a 1950 agreement, Sikh pilgrims are allowed to visit Pakistan’s shrines on four key religious occasions: the death anniversary of Guru Arjan Dev, Guru Nanak’s birthday, the founding day of the Khalsa Panth (Vaisakhi), and Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s death anniversary. It shows that Pakistan’s close ties with Sikhs, and the calls of Sikhs to stand against India, have become a major headache for the Modi government.
