(Web Desk): Donald Trump unveils plans for heavily armed warships named after him, promising a fleet “larger and deadlier” than ever before.

US President Donald Trump announced a new class of heavily armed warships on Monday that will be named after him — an honor typically reserved for former leaders. The Trump-class ships are described as “some of the most lethal surface warfare ships” in US history.

Trump said two ships will be built initially, with the possibility of more. Each vessel will weigh 30,000 to 40,000 tons and feature missiles, guns, lasers, hypersonic weapons, and the capability to carry nuclear-armed sea-launched cruise missiles.

The announcement was made at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence alongside Pentagon officials including Pete Hegseth, Marco Rubio, and Navy Secretary John Phelan. Images of the planned vessels were displayed at the event.

Trump declined to say whether the ships are aimed at China, instead describing them as a counter “to everybody.” He emphasized that he would personally oversee aspects of the design, citing his focus on aesthetics.

The Trump-class ships are larger than current US destroyers and cruisers but slightly smaller than the retired Iowa-class battleships. Trump said these new vessels will restore the US as a major shipbuilding power and ensure it has the most powerful fleet in the world.

The announcement follows the Navy’s recent plans for new FF(X) frigates, intended to complement multi-mission warships, with the first expected by 2028. Trump’s statement reflects growing concern over China’s naval expansion and the US effort to modernize its fleet.
