(Web Desk): Donald Trump praised Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir and repeated claims that US mediation helped avert a nuclear conflict with India.

US President Donald Trump has praised Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, calling him a “highly respected general,” while again claiming he helped stop a potential Pakistan-India nuclear war.

Trump made the remarks during an interaction with reporters in Florida, alongside US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and Navy Secretary John Phelan. He said the United States intervened at a critical moment to prevent escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

“We stopped a potential nuclear war between Pakistan and India,” Trump said. He added that Pakistan’s prime minister credited him with saving millions of lives by preventing a wider conflict.

Trump also claimed that multiple aircraft were shot down during the confrontation and warned that the fighting could have spiraled into a prolonged war. He asserted that he has helped stop eight wars during his leadership.

Tensions between Pakistan and India flared in May after an attack on tourists in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). Pakistan rejected India’s allegations of involvement.

India carried out strikes that killed civilians, prompting Pakistan’s armed forces to respond under Operation Bunyanum Marsoos. Pakistan later said it downed seven Indian fighter jets, including three Rafales, along with several drones.

A ceasefire followed after nearly 87 hours, reportedly brokered by the United States.

Trump later praised PM Shehbaz Sharif and COAS Munir for promoting regional stability. He also reaffirmed strong ties with Indian PM Narendra Modi, while expressing respect for Pakistan’s leadership.
