LAHORE (Web Desk): The United States has officially approved the sale of cutting-edge air-to-air missiles to the Pakistan Air Force (PAF).

According to official documents from Washington, Pakistan will receive AIM-120D-3 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAMs) by 2030. This model is the most advanced version of the AMRAAM family, offering longer range, better precision, and stronger electronic warfare capabilities.

The $2.5 billion contract, awarded to Raytheon Company, will supply AMRAAMs not only to Pakistan but also to Türkiye and other US allies. These new missiles are set to replace the older AIM-120C-5 models currently in use by Pakistan’s F-16 Block 52 fighter jets.

Defense experts say the new missiles will boost Pakistan’s air combat abilities, especially in beyond-visual-range (BVR) engagements. Analysts describe the acquisition as a critical upgrade to Pakistan’s air defense and strike potential.

According to media report the deal followed a series of high-level meetings in July, including a visit by PAF Chief Air Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu to Washington. Pakistan had been lobbying for these advanced weapons for years to keep pace with regional security dynamics.

Meanwhile, Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir also met top US officials recently, signaling a renewed phase of military cooperation between Islamabad and Washington.
