Switzerland rejects US request to airspace for attacks on Iran
(Web Desk): Switzerland refuses US request to use its airspace for strikes on Iran, citing its longstanding neutral policy, intensifying diplomatic and regional tensions globally.

Switzerland has officially denied the United States permission to use its airspace for military operations targeting Iran. In a statement, Swiss authorities emphasized that American aircraft involved in the Iran strikes will not be allowed to fly over Swiss territory. The decision is rooted in Switzerland’s centuries-old neutral foreign policy, aimed at maintaining impartiality in international conflicts.

Swiss officials added that amid the current regional tensions, they are avoiding actions that could be perceived as taking sides, reinforcing their commitment to peace and stability. Humanitarian and medical flights, however, are still permitted, including those carrying wounded individuals or conducting non-combat missions.

The move has triggered reactions in the United States. Senator Bernie Sanders criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for allegedly dragging President Donald Trump into what he called a “dangerous and unpopular war” in the Middle East. Sanders noted that the current conflict has become highly complex, with no clear exit strategy for the US leadership. He urged diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and promote peace in the region.

Analysts suggest Switzerland’s refusal may accelerate global diplomatic activity and could influence other countries’ positions regarding the ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict. The Swiss stance underscores the impact of neutral nations in shaping international military and political dynamics.
