(Web Desk): A member of Saudi Arabia’s Shoura Council has suggested abolishing fees on expatriate workers in the construction sector to help reduce housing costs for citizens.

The proposal was presented during a Shoura Council session held via video conference on Monday, chaired by Speaker Sheikh Abdullah Al-Sheikh. Council member Raeda Abu Nayan urged the Ministry of Commerce, in coordination with other authorities, to study the possibility of removing these fees.

She stated that reducing financial burdens on construction companies could lower overall building costs, which may lead to more affordable housing. The move could also encourage investment in the real estate sector and improve market balance.

During the same session, other members raised additional economic concerns. Khalid Al-Buraik called for faster solutions to ensure car dealerships maintain proper stock of spare parts and reduce repair times to improve customer service.

Asim Madkhali proposed expanding specialized agricultural companies in partnership with small farmers and business owners to strengthen food security and economic sustainability.

Dr. Hassan Al-Hazmi praised the Ministry’s efforts to combat illegal business practices and protect consumers, while Dr. Turki Al-Anzi recommended creating a smart national platform to manage commercial contracts for small and medium-sized enterprises.

The discussions reflect ongoing efforts to support economic growth, improve services, and enhance living standards in Saudi Arabia.
