LAHORE (Web Desk): Kuwait signs $4.1bn deal with China to complete Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port, aiming to boost its role in global trade and diversify the economy.

The State Audit Bureau said the engineering, procurement, and construction contract for the port ‘Mubarak Al-Kabeer’ on Boubyan Island will cost 1.28 billion Kuwaiti dinars ($4,164,000,000).

Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah attended the contract signing ceremony, highlighting that the project will increase Kuwait’s share in regional and international trade and strengthen its position in the global supply chain.

Chinese acting charge d’affaires Liu Xiang described the deal as part of China’s ‘Belt and Road Initiative’ (BRI), which aims to expand infrastructure and trade links worldwide.

This port project is part of a broader cooperation between Kuwait and China. In 2023, Kuwait signed seven memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with China covering the port, housing, water treatment, and renewable energy projects.

Analysts say the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port will make Kuwait a key trade hub in the Gulf, attract foreign investment, and reduce reliance on oil revenue.
