Iraqi forces shot down a drone that attempted to strike a US military base near Baghdad International Airport, local media reported, amid rising regional hostilities.
The drone targeted the Victoria airbase overnight but was intercepted before reaching its objective. Videos circulating online showed debris crashing in the Al-Bu’aitha area under heavy security presence.
Tensions have surged after coordinated military operations between the United States and Israel intensified strikes against positions linked to Iran. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it launched 230 drones at facilities hosting US troops, including bases in northern Iraq and Kuwait, calling the attacks its “first powerful steps” in response.
Explosions were also reported in Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Kuwait, where authorities confirmed incidents involving drone interceptions and damage to energy infrastructure.

Authorities in Qatar ordered evacuations near the US embassy in Doha as a precaution. Meanwhile, regional leaders called for immediate ceasefire and diplomatic solutions to prevent further escalation.
Officials warn that cross-border drone and missile activity continues to expand, increasing fears of a wider regional conflict.
