The government has delayed the state funeral ceremony that was originally set to begin on Wednesday evening. Officials said arrangements will be adjusted as public mourning continues for the late leader.
A senior Iranian official confirmed that a public ceremony will be held so citizens can pay respects. According to state media, the farewell event will continue for three days and details about the funeral procession will be announced later.
Hojjatoleslam Mahmoudi, head of Iran Islamic Propagation Council, said the ceremony will allow people to gather at the prayer hall and participate in honoring the leader. He added that the schedule for the procession will be announced separately.
The event was originally planned at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Prayer Hall at 10pm local time on Wednesday but was officially postponed without detailed explanation. State media reported that visitors will still be allowed to attend the farewell ceremony.

Iran’s late leader, known for his strong stance against the United States and Israel, was reported killed at the age of 86 in air strikes, according to Iranian officials. His death has deepened tensions in an already unstable regional situation.
