DUBAI (Web Desk): Surprise holiday boost delights workers as a two-day National Day break has turned into a rare four-day weekend.

In Dubai, the United Arab Emirates has announced another round of good news for both citizens and foreign workers. The federal government declared a two-day public holiday for employees in the public and private sectors on the occasion of National Day, creating a wave of excitement across the country.

According to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, the holidays are meant to allow workers to fully enjoy the National Day celebrations and spend more time with their families. The ministry said the decision supports a festive environment while giving people a well-deserved pause.

Since the UAE’s weekly days off fall on Saturday and Sunday, these National Day holidays will extend the break to a total of four days. Employees will enjoy continuous time off after finishing work on Friday, a rare chance for many who usually follow tight work schedules.

This announcement has brought joy not only to local citizens but also to expatriate workers who often wait eagerly for extended holidays. For many, such breaks offer a chance to relax, recover and reconnect with family.

The UAE marks its National Day on 2 December each year. The date holds major historical importance, as on 2 December 1971 the states of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah united to form a single federal nation now known worldwide as the United Arab Emirates.

Across the country, National Day is celebrated with official ceremonies, fireworks, parades, cultural shows and a variety of community events. Large shopping malls, entertainment venues and tourist attractions offer special discounts and festival promotions, drawing both residents and visiting tourists.

Following the holiday announcement, the hotel, resort and travel industries are expecting increased activity. Many families are likely to plan short trips, while business owners and workers see the break as an opportunity for physical and mental refreshment.

People in the UAE welcome this longer break with real happiness. A four-day weekend is not common, so it feels special. Families can travel or rest. Businesses also expect more visitors during these days. The mood across the country is clearly positive.
