Top Iranian military commanders killed in Israeli airstrikes: State media

TEHRAN: (Web Desk) Israeli airstrikes launched overnight on Friday targeted Tehran and other Iranian cities, resulting in the assassination of several top military and civilian figures, State media reported.

Among those killed were Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Baqeri, and IRGC Chief Commander, Major General Hossein Salami, who were eliminated in separate strikes.

Major General Gholamali Rashid, commander of the Khatam al-Anbia Headquarters, was also confirmed dead. In addition, two prominent Iranian nuclear scientists — Mohammad-Mehdi Tehranchi, president of Islamic Azad University, and Fereydoun Abbasi, former head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran — were killed in separate attacks.

The Israeli strikes also hit residential areas in the capital, with eyewitnesses and state media reporting civilian casualties, including women and children.

In response to deadly Israeli airstrikes, Iran launched a massive drone strike on Israel. According to international media, Iran unleashed more than 100 drones aimed at Israeli territory. Israeli military officials confirmed the attack and stated that most of the drones were intercepted by the country s defense systems.
