The government of the United Kingdom has announced an increase in visa and travel authorization fees effective April 8, 2026, affecting a wide range of applicants including tourists, students, skilled workers, and long-term residents.
The revised fee structure applies to the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system as well as visitor visas, work permits, student visas, and settlement applications. Travelers who submit their applications before the deadline will still be charged under the current rates.
Under the new changes, the ETA fee will rise to £20, up from the current £16 and its original launch price of £10 in 2023.
The ETA, required for visa-exempt travelers from regions such as United States, Canada, Australia, and across Europe, will remain valid for two years with multiple entries allowed.
Visitor visa fees are also increasing, with a six-month visa rising from £127 to £135, while long-term options such as two-year, five-year, and ten-year visas will see similar hikes.

Applicants for skilled worker visas will face increased costs, with fees rising to £819 for stays up to three years and £1,618 for longer durations. Student visa fees will also increase to £558.
Settlement and citizenship applications are becoming more expensive as well, although child registration fees will see a slight reduction. Officials advise applicants to apply early to avoid higher costs.
