
The ill-fated Boeing 787 Dreamliner departed from Ahmedabad at 1:38 PM and tragically went down just five minutes later, crashing into a residential area in Meghani Nagar. The aircraft was being piloted by Captain Sumit Sabharwal, with Clive Kunder as co-pilot.
The flight was carrying 232 passengers—230 adults and 2 infants—along with 12 crew members, bringing the total number of people on board to 242.

Emergency response teams at Ahmedabad airport were activated immediately, and thick plumes of smoke could be seen rising from the crash site. Aviation officials from the DAW, ADAW, and an FOI who were already present in Ahmedabad have started investigations while rescue and relief operations continue.

Vijay Rupani, born on August 2, 1956, in Rangoon (now Yangon, Myanmar), is a senior Indian politician affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He served as the 16th Chief Minister of Gujarat from August 2016 to September 2021.
Rupani has held various significant roles over his decades-long political career, including Mayor of Rajkot (1996–1997), Member of the Rajya Sabha (2006–2012), and Gujarat state minister in charge of key departments such as transport, labour, and water supply. He also served as president of the Gujarat BJP and was elected multiple times from the Rajkot West constituency.
