
From today the directive will be effective and also applies to power banks without the 3C label or that have been recalled for any reason.
The 3C certification (China Compulsory Certification) is a compulsory safety and quality approval for electronic products in China. Power banks without this certification or that are produced by substandard companies are now banned from being carried in hand luggage on flights.

This decision is in response to a recent rise in battery-related incidents during flights, such as fires or smoke. As per authorities, various incidents have been reported this year in which faulty power banks created hazardous situations. As a result, some companies have decided to recall several batches of their products due to battery cell defects that could cause fires. 3C certifications have been suspended or revoked by market regulatory authorities of several battery and power bank manufacturers.
Airlines and airports have been told to tighten inspection procedures, inform passengers, and be equipped to handle emergency situations. The new regulations will be released publicly at various locations like check-in counters, security checkpoints, and digital screens. The airlines have been requested by the CAAC to raise awareness among passengers and prevent the use of faulty or uncertified devices.
Passengers are urged to ensure power banks display the 3C certification and are from reputable brands before the flight.
