(Web Desk): UNSC approves US drafted resolution for Gaza stabilization force and transitional Board of Peace, opening path towards statehood.

The United Nations Security Council approved a resolution drafted by the United States to help make Gaza more stable after a long period of conflict on November 17, 2025. The resolution passed with 13 votes in favor and none against while China and Russia chose not to vote. It supports President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan for peace and sets up a temporary leadership group and a security force made up of international members.

Under the resolution, a new Board of Peace to be led by Trump will oversee governance, reconstruction, and civilian administration in Gaza for an initial two-year period. An International Stabilization Force (ISF) will be deployed to monitor borders, protect civilians, and implement demilitarization including the decommissioning of weapons held by non-state groups.

However, some Security Council members such as China and Russia raised concern over the force’s mandate and the Board’s structure but ultimately abstained.

Notably, several Muslim states including Pakistan, Egypt, Qatar and Jordan expressed strong support for the resolution signaling willingness to contribute troops to the ISF. Whereas Hamas has sharply rejected the proposal. One of their spokespersons called the plan an imposition of “international guardianship” over Gaza and denounced its demands for withdrawal of weapons.

The vote marks a pivotal moment in Gaza’s future, after two years of war, the resolution aims to weave a framework for long-term peace, reconstruction and possibly statehood but obstacles remain as some feel uneasy about the foreign involvement.
