US President Donald Trump has announced the suspension of trade relations with Spain, accusing Madrid of refusing to support US military operations linked to strikes on Iran.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said Spain “acted very badly” by denying permission for American forces to use military bases on Spanish soil for missions connected to operations against Iran. He declared that, as a result, Washington would terminate all trade relations with Spain.
The move marks a sharp escalation in tensions between the two NATO allies and raises concerns about broader diplomatic and economic fallout.
According to Trump, Spain rejected a request allowing US forces access to joint military facilities for Iran-related strike missions. He described the refusal as unacceptable and said the United States would respond with decisive economic measures.

However, Spanish officials strongly denied the allegation. Madrid stated that US forces are not using Spanish territory for military action against Iran and emphasized that such operations have neither taken place nor will be allowed in the future.
Spain maintains several joint defense cooperation agreements with the United States, including shared military bases. The dispute now threatens to strain those longstanding security ties.
Analysts warn that cutting trade ties could impact billions of dollars in bilateral commerce and deepen divisions within the Western alliance at a time of rising global tensions.
