WASHINGTON (Web Desk): Brian McGinnis, a former US Marine, was injured and removed from a Senate hearing after protesting the US and Israel’s strikes on Iran, shouting, “No one wants to fight for Israel!”

McGinnis, 44, is running for the US Senate in North Carolina as a Green Party candidate. The incident occurred on Wednesday during a Senate Armed Services subcommittee hearing when he interrupted proceedings to criticize America’s role in the conflict with Israel and Iran.

A struggle ensued with Capitol Police and Republican Senator Tim Sheehy. McGinnis’ arm was reportedly broken as officers tried to drag him out of the doorway. A video verified by Reuters shows McGinnis’ hand pinned in the door hinge while he resisted removal.

“No one wants to fight for Israel,” McGinnis repeated, as onlookers called attention to his trapped hand. Three officers were treated for minor injuries, and McGinnis also received medical attention for his arm.

Police confirmed that McGinnis now faces charges, including assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, and obstruction during an unlawful demonstration.

On Thursday, McGinnis posted on X, “I’ve been running long before this, and yes, even after breaking my arm standing up for what I believe in. It’s only made me more determined. Anger is real, and so is resolve.”

McGinnis’ campaign website states he joined Marine boot camp days after graduating from high school, served for four years, and now works as a firefighter and father of four. The Green Party, which he represents, is a third party with no current US Senate seats but attracts some independent voters.

Senator Sheehy said in a post on X that he intervened to defuse the altercation. “Capitol Police were attempting to remove an unhinged protester from the Armed Services hearing. He was fighting back. I decided to help out and de-escalate the situation. I hope he gets the help he needs without causing further violence,” Sheehy wrote.

The incident comes amid rising tensions following US and Israeli military strikes on Iran, which triggered retaliatory attacks on Israel and nearby Gulf countries, plunging the Middle East into a new conflict.

McGinnis did not immediately respond to requests for further comment. His family said he would avoid public interactions while recovering.
