(Web Desk): The PTML 180 MHz spectrum in 5G auction marks a major step toward faster mobile internet in Pakistan with spectrum worth $156.75 million.

Pak Telecom Mobile Limited (PTML), which is a fully owned subsidiary of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL), successfully obtained 180 MHz spectrum in Pakistan’s Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS)/5G auction.

According to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), PTML secured 60 MHz spectrum in the 2600 MHz band and 120 MHz spectrum in the 3500 MHz band during the spectrum assignment stage. This stage helps telecom operators receive specific frequency positions so that their networks can work smoothly with less interference.

After completing the required formal procedures, PTML will sign the NGMS/5G licence agreement with PTA. Following this step, the company plans to start rolling out 5G services across the country in phases.

The new 5G upgrades are expected to significantly improve mobile broadband services for PTML users. Customers using networks under the Ufone, Telenor, and Onic brands may experience faster internet speeds, better connectivity, and improved digital services once the rollout begins.

The entire 5G auction generated around $510 million, which is nearly Rs142,000,000,000 for the national treasury. PTA officials completed the spectrum position assignment process for both the 2600 MHz and 3500 MHz bands. Meanwhile, the 700 MHz band was won only by Jazz, so it did not require any position assignment.

Experts say the introduction of 5G technology could transform Pakistan’s digital landscape. Faster internet and lower latency can support many modern technologies, including smart cities, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things.

Officials believe the development will strengthen Pakistan’s digital infrastructure and create new opportunities for businesses, technology startups, and online services across the country.

This auction shows Pakistan is slowly moving toward advanced digital technology. Faster internet can help businesses grow and improve online services. However, the real impact will depend on how quickly telecom companies launch 5G services across the country.
