Govt forms National CERT to detect, prevent cyber-attacks

LAHORE: (Web Desk) In order to counter cyber-attacks and protect sensitive information, the federal government has formed the National Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT).

The National CERT will protect digital assets, sensitive information and the basic digital infrastructure of the country.

A notification of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication says that the team has been constituted according to the CERT Rules and the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).

It adds that the Cyber Security for Digital Pakistan project that is being run for several years has been named National CERT which will detect and prevent cyber-attacks.

The appointment of experts in the team and the procurement of essential software and hardware have been completed already. A sperate website has also been launched for National CERT.

It is to be noted here that the Cyber Security for Digital Pakistan project was being run for several years. The National Telecommunication and Information Security Board (NTISB) had been running the project.
