The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has updated tax values for used smartphones following the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) recent revision of custom values. The change mainly affects importers bringing in old and used phones, while end consumers seeking PTA approval for their personal devices will not face any additional charges.
This revision is expected to make used phones from popular brands such as Apple, Samsung, OnePlus, and Google more affordable in Pakistan. Among the most notable changes are the updated PTA tax values for the iPhone 14 lineup.
According to the new rates, the PTA tax for an iPhone 14 is Rs 24,584, based on an FBR custom value of $210. Adding this to the usual price of a non-PTA iPhone 14, which ranges from Rs 100,000 to Rs 120,000, results in a final retail price of approximately Rs 120,000 to Rs 150,000 for PTA-approved devices.

Similarly, the iPhone 14 Pro, which typically costs Rs 120,000 to Rs 140,000 without PTA approval, now has a tax value of Rs 28,616 ($290), bringing the retail price to Rs 150,000 to Rs 170,000. The iPhone 14 Pro Max, priced between Rs 150,000 and Rs 170,000 for non-PTA devices, now has a PTA tax of Rs 39,944 ($360), meaning the new retail price is expected to exceed Rs 200,000.
Experts say these revisions could encourage more legal imports of used smartphones, offering buyers cheaper alternatives while ensuring compliance with PTA regulations.
