Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) determines the tax on any cell phone, keeping in light of its price, tax rate, customs duty, and sales tax.
In October, Mercantile was the only distributor of the Apple’s phones. However, a company named G-Next has been added to the list of distributors. This time, both companies are selling iPhones in Pakistani market.
Prior to this, G-Next was linked with selling and purchasing of Samsung, Tecno and other brands. Recently, it came into partnership with the Airlink and started selling of Apple’s products in Pakistan.
The introduction of new distributors has not only reduced the monopoly of iPhone and Apple’s products in market but also caused decrease in their prices. The price of iPhone 16 series decreased by Rs20,000 to Rs30,000. Consequently, the tax on Apple’s products has been reduced.
It merits mention that after launching iPhone 16 in September, its prices were high and skyrocketed. In Pakistan, where there is no Apple store, iPhones were available in premium prices.
The iPhone 16 Pro Max, which was available on Apple store at $1200, was selling at the cost 540,000 rupees in Pakistan. In recent times, the PTA tax on the iPhone 16 Pro Max with a CNIC was Rs213,000 and around Rs183,000 with a passport.
