The QPR2 Beta 1 release is only a short while after the Pixel 10 series went on sale, with the stable public release scheduled for December, as outlined by Google s plans.
One of the most notable features is the wiser dark theme. This feature makes Android 16 adjust apps that still have light backgrounds automatically, so there can be a cohesive dark mode experience throughout the system.
Aside from aesthetics, the transition is meant for accessibility, as it assists visually impaired people with photosensitivity or low vision. The feature carries over to splash screens and the status bar as well, providing a more cohesive look.
Another key addition is auto-themed icons. Previously, icon theming relied on developers providing compatible monochrome versions. With Android 16, users can now enforce uniform icon colors across all apps, giving the home screen a cleaner and more consistent style—regardless of developer support.
The update also introduces a new parental controls centre in Settings, which provides parents with an easier way to establish screen time limits, block particular apps, filter mature content, and establish control via Google Family Link, all secured with a PIN.

Other enhancements are more seamless data transferring between Android and iOS, better PDF editing and annotating tools, and support for Personal Audio Sharing for Bluetooth LE directly in the audio output switcher. Collectively, the enhancements make Android 16 more customizable, secure, and user-friendly.
For the time being, the Android 16 QPR2 Beta 1 can be accessed by Pixel users who are part of the beta program, while others will get access once the stable update is released sometime this year.
