Zacharia Armstrong said it took him nearly a year of research, testing, and trial and error. He shared his findings on his YouTube channel, LabCoatz.
According to Armstrong, Coca-Cola is made of nearly 99 percent sugar. He said this matches the drink’s nutrition label, which shows that 1 liter of Coke contains 110 grams of sugar.
Coca-Cola says its unique taste comes from natural flavors. Armstrong, however, claims his recreated formula tastes almost the same and has a very similar flavor profile.

One of Coke’s known ingredients is a cocaine-free extract of coca leaves. The company that makes this extract does not sell it to the public, making it very hard to copy the drink.
Armstrong said he used chemical tests to identify the fingerprint of Coke’s ingredients. He then recreated the drink without using coca leaves.
His recipe includes lemon oil, lime oil, tea-tree oil, cinnamon oil, nutmeg oil, orange oil, coriander oil, and a pine-like natural flavor called fenchol. These are mixed in very precise amounts.

The mixture is left to age for one day. It is then diluted with food-grade alcohol. Reports say a small amount of this concentrate can be used to make up to 5,000 liters of Coca-Cola.
So far, Coca-Cola has not commented on Armstrong’s claim.
