(Web Desk): Ali Tareen has stepped down as Multan Sultans owner after the PCB declined to renew the franchise contract, ending a passionate era for the PSL team.

In an emotional development for Pakistan Super League (PSL) fans, Ali Tareen has officially stepped down as owner of the Multan Sultans after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) refused to offer him a chance to renew the franchise contract. The announcement came on November 25, 2025, marking the end of a passionate era for one of PSL’s most consistent teams.

Tareen, who took charge of the franchise in 2018 following the passing of his uncle, Alamgir Tareen, said leading the Multan Sultans was “one of the greatest honors” of his life. Despite consistent financial losses, he stressed that quitting was never an option because the team meant far more to him than business numbers.

He expressed heartfelt gratitude toward the players, staff, and loyal fans, highlighting how deeply he valued representing South Punjab — a mission his late uncle had envisioned. Under his leadership, Multan Sultans rose to remarkable success, winning the PSL title in 2021 and reaching two more finals, becoming one of the league’s strongest and most admired teams.

Reflecting on his tenure, Tareen emphasized the team’s culture of hard work, commitment, and integrity. He also acknowledged disagreements with PCB over league issues, saying he preferred “standing tall rather than bending low.”

With the PSL expanding to eight teams in 2026, the PCB is now responsible for selecting a new owner for Multan Sultans. However, Tareen assured fans he would remain emotionally connected to the franchise, promising to support the team from the stands and urging supporters to back the next leadership wholeheartedly.

Fans reacted with mixed emotions — appreciation for his contributions and concern for the team’s future. As PSL enters a new phase, Tareen’s exit closes a memorable chapter while leaving behind a legacy defined by loyalty, resilience, and regional pride.
