LAHORE (Web Desk): Liverpool secured a narrow 2-1 win over Wolves at Anfield, with Florian Wirtz scoring his first Premier League goal in a match that was far from comfortable for the hosts.

The Reds struck twice in quick succession late in the first half. Ryan Gravenberch opened the scoring after finishing calmly from Jeremie Frimpong’s cutback. Just moments later, Wirtz stayed onside and poked the ball past goalkeeper Jose Sa to double the lead.

Before the goals, Liverpool had dominated possession and chances. Hugo Ekitike and Alexis Mac Allister both hit the post as Wolves struggled to cope with the pressure.

Wolves showed more fight after the break and refused to collapse. Santiago Bueno scored after Alisson pushed Tolu Arokodare’s header onto the line, cutting Liverpool’s lead and raising tension inside the stadium.

The visitors pushed hard for an equaliser. Arokodare missed a golden chance late on when he headed over from close range, allowing Liverpool to escape with all three points.

The win lifts Liverpool, at least temporarily, above Chelsea and into fourth place. Wolves remain bottom of the table and continue to suffer a historic run of defeats.

For Wirtz, the goal was a personal milestone. It was his first in the league after many attempts, following his assist in last week’s win at Tottenham.

Despite the victory, Liverpool’s performance raised questions, as Wolves came close to snatching a point.
