(Web Desk): In a high pressure match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka by 61 runs, ending the hosts’ campaign in dramatic fashion.

Chasing a target of 169, Sri Lanka collapsed early and never recovered. They finished on 107-8 in 20 overs after losing wickets from the very first ball. Matt Henry bowled Pathum Nissanka for a duck on the opening delivery, setting the tone for New Zealand.

Rachin Ravindra then turned the game completely in New Zealand’s favor. He removed key batters including Kusal Mendis, Pavan Rathnayake and captain Dasun Shanaka. Ravindra’s four wicket spell broke Sri Lanka’s backbone.

Kamindu Mendis tried to fight back with 31 runs, while Dunith Wellalage added 29, but the required rate kept rising. Mitchell Santner and Glenn Phillips ensured there was no late comeback.

Earlier, New Zealand posted 168-7 in 20 overs. Tim Seifert and Finn Allen gave a quick start, but Sri Lankan bowlers hit back with regular wickets. At one stage, New Zealand were struggling at 84-5.

Captain Mitchell Santner then played a captain’s knock of 47 off 26 balls, hitting two fours and four sixes. Cole McConchie supported him with 31 runs, helping the team cross the 150 mark in the final overs.

That late surge proved decisive, as Sri Lanka failed to handle the pressure of a big tournament game.

With this 61 run victory, New Zealand move ahead with confidence, while Sri Lanka bow out of the T20 World Cup in front of their home crowd.

Sri Lanka lost the match in the first few overs. Early wickets changed everything. New Zealand stayed calm under pressure. Their strong finish with the bat made the difference. Big matches often turn on small moments, and this was one of them.
