The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially revised the T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final schedule following the conclusion of the Super Eight stage, clarifying venue allocations and match scenarios ahead of the knockout round.
In a detailed statement circulated to stakeholders, the ICC outlined conditional arrangements for the semi-finals based on the qualification of Pakistan, India, and Sri Lanka, ensuring smooth logistics and competitive balance during the business end of the tournament.
First Semi-Final: Colombo or Kolkata?
Under the revised T20 World Cup semi-final schedule, the first semi-final could be staged either in Colombo or Kolkata, depending on which teams qualify.
- If Pakistan qualify for the semi-finals, they will play the first semi-final on March 4 in Colombo.
- If Pakistan fail to qualify but Sri Lanka advance — and are not drawn against India — Sri Lanka will feature in the first semi-final in Colombo.
- If neither Pakistan nor Sri Lanka reach the semi-finals, the first semi-final will be moved to Kolkata.
This flexible arrangement is designed to address logistical planning, broadcasting considerations, and anticipated fan turnout.

India’s Semi-Final Venue: Mumbai or Colombo?
The ICC further clarified that if India qualify for the semi-finals, they will play in Mumbai.
However, if India are drawn against Pakistan in the knockout stage, the high-voltage clash will be shifted to Colombo instead of Mumbai.
In scenarios where the first semi-final takes place in Kolkata, the second semi-final will be hosted in Mumbai as per the revised plan.
ICC’s Strategic Move Ahead of Knockouts
The ICC stated that the revised T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final schedule aims to streamline venue operations, manage security and travel logistics, and maintain competitive fairness as the tournament enters its decisive phase.
The update comes after the completion of the Super Eight stage, with final semi-final matchups now dependent on confirmed qualifiers and draw outcomes.
Cricket fans worldwide are closely monitoring qualification scenarios, especially involving Pakistan, India, and Sri Lanka, given the potential venue shifts and blockbuster match possibilities.
With the knockout stage approaching, the revised ICC plan ensures flexibility while preserving the excitement surrounding the T20 World Cup 2026 semi-finals.
