Babar Azam last appeared in a T20 International for Pakistan in December 2024 against South Africa.
After that, he was dropped from the team due to his declining form and low strike rate.
In his final 10 matches, Babar scored only 236 runs, with no half-centuries. Three of those innings ended with him scoring less than 10 runs.
Now, with the Asia Cup just around the corner and star batter Fakhar Zaman injured, many cricket fans and experts are calling for Babar Azam’s return to the squad.
One of the strongest voices in his support is former Pakistan captain and cricket legend Wasim Akram.

Speaking to Cricket Pakistan, Akram said, “If I had the authority, I would bring Babar back to the T20 team.
The Asia Cup and World Cup are coming, and we need an experienced batter who can lead from the front.”
He also reminded fans that Babar performed impressively in 2019 while playing for Somerset in England, scoring runs at a strike rate of nearly 150.
“Babar knows how to adjust his game depending on the situation,” Akram added. “He’s still one of the best batters in the world and has a lot to offer. We should support him.”
Akram added, “In pressure chases of 140 or 160 runs, Babar can lead from the front and guide the team. He is still one of the world’s best and has a lot of crickets left in him.”
He also suggested that number three is the best batting spot for Babar but left the final call to the coach.
Despite recent struggles, Babar’s experience and adaptability may still be crucial for Pakistan’s success in upcoming tournaments.
