(Web Desk): Afghanistan’s cricket captain, Rashid Khan, is grieving the loss of his elder brother, Haji Abdul Halim Shinwari, who passed away last week.

The tragedy struck during the tri-nation T20I series in Sharjah, but Rashid demonstrated remarkable resilience by leading his team and even scoring a brisk 39 off 16 balls in the series opener against Pakistan.

In a touching display of solidarity, the Pakistan cricket team paid tribute to Rashid, consoling him on the field with heartfelt gestures after the match. A viral video captured Shaheen Shah Afridi embracing Rashid, while others gathered to offer their support and prayers.

Afghan teammates and former players also voiced their condolences publicly:

“An elder brother is like a father to the family… My heartfelt condolences to @rashidkhan_19 and his family,” wrote Ibrahim Zadran on X.

“May Allah grant him the highest ranks of Paradise (Jannat al-Firdaus) and bestow beautiful patience upon their esteemed family. Ameen,” expressed former captain Asghar Afghan.
