The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has won the hearts of cricket fans around the world by securing the second spot in a recent BBC Sport ranking of T20 leagues.
The study looked at what makes these leagues exciting, such as the number of sixes, dot balls, close finishes, and overall intensity of the matches.
PSL stood out with an average first innings score of 180 runs, just a bit higher than the IPL’s 179. It also had a strong record of games decided in the final over, with 27.5% of matches coming down to the wire only slightly behind the IPL’s 28.9%.

This means the PSL keeps fans on the edge of their seats until the very last ball. When it comes to boundaries, the IPL takes the lead, with PSL not far behind. Meanwhile, the Caribbean Premier League showed strength in spin bowling, and Australia’s league favored fast bowlers.
The report also found that the International League T20 (ILT20) features the most experienced international players per match, thanks to better pay and more overseas player slots.
According to BBC’s Entertainment Index, which scores leagues on five key areas, the IPL came first, PSL second, ILT20 third, and the Big Bash League last cementing PSL’s place as one of the most exciting cricket leagues worldwide.
PSL’s rise to becoming the second most thrilling T20 league reflects Pakistan’s growing role in global cricket. Its mix of close contests and high-scoring games makes it a favorite among fans.
The league’s strength lies in blending homegrown talent with seasoned international stars. As cricket’s popularity continues to grow worldwide, the PSL is in a strong position to attract larger audiences and investment, with the potential to challenge the IPL’s dominance in the years ahead.
