Ravindra sustained a forehead injury during a warm-up match against Pakistan for the upcoming Champions Trophy.
Rachin Ravindra had passed his initial Head Injury Assessment (HIA) and would remain under observation, the team management confirmed in a statement.
He suffered a laceration on his forehead after misjudging a catch under the floodlights in the 38th over of Pakistan’s innings at Gaddafi Stadium. The ball struck him directly on the face, causing bleeding.
"He sustained a laceration to the forehead which has been addressed and treated at the ground," New Zealand Cricket (NZC) said.
Talking to journalists after the match, Teammate Glenn Phillips called the moment "terrifying" but was relieved that Ravindra had remained conscious throughout.
“He lost the ball in the lights, and unfortunately, the ball won that situation this time. He is being monitored, and I am sure he will be raring to go as soon as possible,” Phillips said.
Phillips played a key role in New Zealand’s 78-run victory, scoring his maiden ODI century. His unbeaten 106 off 74 deliveries led the Black Caps to 330 for six in their 50 overs. In response Pakistan were bundled out for 252 runs.
New Zealand are set to face South Africa on Monday at Gaddafi Stadium as part of the tri-series warm-up for the Champions Trophy.
