The tournament was planned for a neutral venue after Bangladesh’s cricket series in September. But now, India is showing unwillingness and using political tactics that are putting the whole tournament at risk.
Surprisingly, India is the official host of Asia Cup 2025, but still wants Pakistan to play its matches in Sri Lanka or the UAE — not in Pakistan. Last year, when Pakistan offered a "hybrid model" (some matches in Pakistan, others in neutral locations), India had rejected it. Now, India seems to be supporting the same model, which raises eyebrows.
This isn’t the first time India has mixed politics with cricket. Similar actions were taken during the 2019 World Cup and 2023 Asia Cup, when India avoided matches with Pakistan — drawing criticism from international sports circles.
Meanwhile, there are reports that India might even cancel its upcoming series against Bangladesh. This may be linked to controversial comments made by a retired Bangladeshi general about India’s northeast region.
Sports experts warn that if India continues this behavior, it could cause serious damage to Asian cricket and harm the spirit of fair play in international sports.
