Last week, Arshad won Pakistan’s first Olympic gold in 40 years and also set a record in the Games with his throw of 92.97-metre.
As the nation has been celebrating the national hero’s victory since his return to the country, also the Punjab chief minister arrived in Mian Channu and visited Arshad at his home.
The CM felicitated the hero and his mother Razia Parveen.
CM Maryam handed Arshad a cheque worth Rs100 million along with a Honda Civic car with a special registration number PAK-92.97 to commemorate the athlete’s winning throw, according to a press release.
She also handed Arshad’s coach Salman Iqbal Butt a cheque worth Rs5m for the training he provided to the javelin star.
“Arshad Nadeem has brought unprecedented happiness to the nation,” Maryam said.
In a post on X, Maryam said, “The heights that parents’ prayers take a person to!.” She also shared a picture of her sitting with Arshad and his mother.
Sharing pictures of her adorning Arshad with a medal, she said in another post, “Well done Arshad Nadeem.”
In addition, the Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) has announced Umrah packages for Arshad and his family. Arshad, along with his wife, children, and parents, would go for Umrah after the conclusion of celebratory events.
Separately, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said he would host a dinner for Arshad and his family at the PM House, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported.
Speaking during a federal cabinet meeting, PM Shehbaz again paid tribute to Arshad, highlighting that he overcame numerous challenges through his “unwavering effort”.
The premier also commended the javelin thrower’s parents and coach for their support for the gold medallist.
