The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain with thunderstorms and snowfall in several parts of the country, while the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide alert warning of possible landslides, cold waves, and adverse weather conditions from December 29, 2025, to January 2, 2026.
According to the PMD, Islamabad and Murree are expected to experience cold weather with partly cloudy skies, while upper and mountainous regions may receive rain and snowfall during this period.
Punjab: Fog, Rain, and Cold Conditions
In Punjab, dense fog is expected in several districts, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Jhang, Sheikhupura, Sahiwal, Faisalabad, Shorkot, Multan, Kot Addu, Bahawalnagar, Okara, Kasur, Khanewal, Khanpur, Bahawalpur, and Rahim Yar Khan.
The NDMA advisory states that rain is expected in parts of Punjab from December 29 to January 2, with Lahore, Gujrat, Gujranwala, and Faisalabad among the key cities likely to receive rainfall.
Balochistan: Thunderstorms and Strong Winds
Several districts of Balochistan are likely to experience rain with thunder and lightning, including Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Noshki, Harnai, Zhob, Kalat, Barkhan, Sibi, Loralai, Musakhel, Turbat, Gwadar, Jiwani, Lasbela, Kech, Awaran, and Chagai.
Meanwhile, Panjgur, Khuzdar, Washuk, and Kharan may witness rain accompanied by strong winds, particularly during evening and night hours. The NDMA noted that cold and dry weather will persist in most parts of Balochistan, with severe cold in northern districts.

Sindh: Fog and First Winter Rain in Karachi
In upper Sindh, fog is expected to persist in Sukkur, Rohri, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Benazirabad, and Mohenjo Daro.
The NDMA has also forecast Karachi’s first winter rain on December 30, which may bring a drop in temperatures and temporary relief from dry conditions.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and AJK: Snowfall Likely
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain and snowfall are expected at a few locations, particularly in Kohistan, Battagram, and Chitral, where mountainous areas may receive snow.
Similarly, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan are likely to experience rain and snowfall at scattered places, raising the risk of slippery roads and travel disruptions in higher altitudes.
NDMA Advisory and Safety Measures
The NDMA has warned of possible landslides in hilly and mountainous regions due to rain and snowfall. Citizens, especially travelers and residents of northern areas, have been advised to:
- Avoid unnecessary travel in mountainous regions
- Stay updated with official weather advisories
- Take precautions against cold and wet conditions
- Prepare for possible road closures and delays
Authorities emphasized that evening and night hours may see strong winds, thunderstorms, and snowfall, urging the public to remain cautious during the active weather spell.
