(Web Desk): Skywatchers in Pakistan can enjoy the stunning Snow Moon tonight as February’s full moon appears brighter, larger, and orange-hued near the horizon, NASA says.

Stargazing enthusiasts across Pakistan will have a rare celestial treat tonight as the Snow Moon, February’s full moon, lights up the night sky with exceptional brightness and size.

According to international media reports and the US space agency NASA, the moon will appear larger and more luminous than usual on February 1, earning it the name “Snow Moon.” NASA has confirmed that the moon will reach its full phase at 5:09 pm, shining at its peak brilliance.

When and Where to Watch the Snow Moon

The Snow Moon will be visible near the eastern horizon around sunset, where it may appear orange in color due to atmospheric effects. As the night progresses, the moon will rise higher and appear its usual silvery-white glow.

NASA stated that the Snow Moon phenomenon will be visible from the night of January 31 through February 2, offering ample opportunity for viewers to observe and photograph the event, weather permitting.

Why Is It Called the Snow Moon?

The term Snow Moon originates from North America, where February is traditionally associated with heavy snowfall. Indigenous tribes named full moons based on seasonal patterns to track time and weather.

In some cultures, the February full moon is also known as the Slate Moon, Wind Moon, or Crow Moon, reflecting regional traditions and natural changes during late winter.

Best Viewing Tips

Astronomy experts advise viewers to choose an open area with a clear view of the eastern sky, away from city lights, for the best experience. No special equipment is required, though binoculars or a camera can enhance the view.

With clear skies expected in many parts of Pakistan, the Snow Moon promises to be a breathtaking natural spectacle for families, photographers, and astronomy lovers alike.
