Motorways M-4 and M-5 have been fully reopened for traffic following an improvement in visibility, a spokesperson for the Central Region of the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) confirmed on Tuesday.
According to officials, Motorway M-4 has been restored for all types of vehicles, while Motorway M-5, which was earlier closed to heavy traffic, has also been reopened after weather conditions improved. The closures were imposed due to dense fog that had significantly reduced visibility and increased the risk of accidents.
The Motorway Police have advised commuters to remain cautious while traveling, strictly observe speed limits, and maintain a safe following distance. Authorities warned that speeding, lane violations, and careless driving during foggy conditions can lead to serious and fatal accidents.

Officials reiterated that the safest travel time during fog is between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm, when visibility generally improves. Motorists traveling outside these hours have been urged to reduce speed, follow lane discipline, use fog lights, and avoid sudden braking or overtaking.
Drivers were also encouraged to use alternative routes such as the GT Road where possible and to remain alert, as fog conditions can deteriorate suddenly. The NHMP stated that weather and road conditions are being continuously monitored, and further restrictions may be imposed if visibility worsens again.
For real-time traffic updates, route guidance, or emergency assistance, citizens have been advised to contact the Motorway Police helpline 130 and follow official advisories.
