(Web Desk): The Met Office has forecast widespread rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall across most parts of Pakistan from January 16 to 23 as a strong westerly system moves in.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that a shallow westerly wave will approach the upper regions of the country from January 16 and is expected to persist until January 19. The system is likely to intensify from January 20, affecting most parts of Pakistan from January 21 onward.

Rain And Snow In Northern Areas

Under the influence of this system, rain, wind, thunderstorms, and light to moderate snowfall are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from January 16 (evening/night) to January 19 with occasional breaks. Murree and the Galliyat region are also likely to receive light rain and snowfall between January 18 and 20.

Widespread Rain In Plains

From January 20 to 23, widespread rain and thunderstorms are expected in Islamabad, the Potohar region, Punjab divisions including Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, and several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, and Dera Ismail Khan.

Heavy Snowfall Warning

The Met Office has warned of heavy snowfall in Chitral, Swat, Kalam, Murree, Galliyat, Neelum Valley, Bagh, and Rawalakot from January 20 night to January 23, which may disrupt road traffic and daily life.

Rain In Balochistan And Sindh

Rain and thunderstorms are expected in Balochistan on January 21 and 22, with moderate to heavy snowfall in northern districts.

Sindh, including Karachi and Hyderabad, is likely to receive rain on January 22 and 23.

Authorities have advised travelers and residents in hilly areas to remain cautious due to possible road closures and reduced visibility.
