Dense fog continues to blanket several parts of Pakistan, severely reducing visibility and forcing the closure of major motorways at multiple locations to prevent accidents.
According to a spokesperson for the Motorways Police, the M-1 motorway has been closed from Peshawar to Rashakai due to extremely low visibility. Similarly, the M-2 motorway has been shut from Lahore to Balkasar, while traffic on the M-3 motorway from Lahore to Multan has also been suspended.
Authorities confirmed that the M-4 motorway from Pindi Bhattian to Multan, the M-5 from Multan to Sukkur, and the M-11 from Lahore to Sialkot have been closed as thick fog continues to disrupt traffic flow. These closures were implemented as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of commuters.
In addition to motorways, dense fog has also affected several sections of national highways. Areas including Bahawalpur, Ahmedpur Sharqia, Tando Muhammad Panah, Iqbalabad, Rahim Yar Khan, Daudkhel, and Sadiqabad are experiencing extremely poor visibility. Officials said visibility on these highways ranges from zero to one hundred meters, making travel highly risky.
Motorways Police spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmed stated that the primary objective behind closing the motorways is to protect lives and property. He warned that lane violations during foggy conditions can lead to serious and sometimes fatal accidents.
