Sindh on rain alert as monsoon spell begins today

KARACHI (Web Desk): The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted rains across Sindh from today.

According to the PMD, the rains will start from Dadu today, in addition to this, there is a possibility of cloudy weather in Sukkur, Umerkot, Tharparkar, Badin, Sujawal, Karachi, Mirpur Khas, Larkana, Nawabshah, Shikarpur and Jacobabad.

According to the meteorological department, rain is expected in various districts of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Multan.

On the other hand, more rains have also been predicted in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

It is important to note that heavy monsoon rains across Punjab have killed at least 63 people and injured nearly 300 in the past 24 hours, bringing the nationwide death toll from the rains to at least 159 since late June.

The downpours on Thursday caused urban flooding and building collapses, with most of the deaths caused by the roofs of weaker homes failing. Lahore reported atleast 15 deaths, Faisalabad nine, and the outlying towns of Okara, Sahiwal and Pakpattan several more.
