LAHORE: (Suno News) Pre-monsoon rains are expected to continue across Punjab until May 31, according to an official advisory issued by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).

Citizens have been urged to take precautionary measures to stay safe during this period of unstable weather.

A spokesperson for PDMA stated that over the past three days, severe thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, hail, and lightning strikes have caused multiple incidents, leading to casualties and injuries. According to the report, three people lost their lives, and 25 others were injured in weather-related accidents.

The report noted that two people died after being struck by lightning in Mianwali and Attock, while another person in Multan was killed when an old building collapsed due to the storm. The injured are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia has directed local authorities to ensure immediate and quality medical care for the injured. He also stated that, in line with the Punjab Chief Minister’s directives, financial compensation will be provided to the families of the deceased, and assistance will be offered to those who suffered losses.

The PDMA chief urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, especially during storms and high winds. He advised the public to stay away from open spaces during lightning storms and to seek shelter in safe locations.

According to the PDMA spokesperson, thunderstorms and rain are likely in several districts, including Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Multan. Citizens have been encouraged to follow weather advisories and prioritize their safety at all times.
