Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, while presiding over a high-level meeting on commodity prices, directed the Price Control Department to revise roti rates without delay. She stressed that the recent reduction in flour prices must be directly reflected in the cost of bread, ensuring immediate relief for the general public.
Vowing to bring the price of roti “to the lowest level in history,” the Chief Minister emphasized that food inflation hits the poor the hardest. She urged officials to act swiftly and effectively to ensure that the impact of reduced flour prices reaches every household.
It is worth mentioning that the price of flour has dropped to Rs. 2,200 per 40 kg bag, down from Rs. 3,500 per 40 kg during the same period last year.
Maryam Nawaz also expressed serious concern over the rising prices of essential food items, particularly poultry, vegetables, and pulses. Highlighting the growing inaccessibility of chicken for low-income families, she stated firmly, “If the poor cannot afford chicken even once a week, I will not tolerate it.”
To combat profiteering and market manipulation, the Chief Minister ordered increased monitoring of markets and strict action against hoarders. She reaffirmed her government’s commitment to shielding the underprivileged from the effects of inflation and delivering real economic relief to the people of Punjab.
