LAHORE (Web Desk): Heavy rain, strong winds, and hailstorms hit Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Friday, bringing relief from the heat and turning the weather pleasant.

In Karak, rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning was reported in the city and nearby areas. In Buner, several localities also experienced intense rain, hailstorms, and thunderstorms.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert based on a strong westerly system expected to impact the upper catchments of major rivers, Islamabad, Punjab, and KP from Sunday to Tuesday.

According to the National Emergencies Operations Center, this system could bring moderate to heavy rainfall, isolated thunderstorms, and gusty winds in various regions.

The upper catchments of the River Jhelum may experience medium to high water flow due to heavy rainfall. Rivers Ravi and Sutlej may also see rising water levels, potentially causing medium-level flooding in low-lying or vulnerable areas.

Additionally, water flows are likely to increase in western tributaries, including the Swat, Panjkora, and Kabul rivers.
