ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a high alert warning of urban flooding in Islamabad and northern Punjab within hours.

The NDMA revealed that torrential rains could strike in the next 2 to 6 hours, posing a serious risk to lives and property. Areas under imminent threat include Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, and adjoining regions.

According to the NEOC alert, a powerful system of towering cumulus clouds developed due to extreme heat on Friday. This weather system could unleash heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and dangerous lightning strikes.

Officials have also cautioned that hilly regions may face sudden landslides, while vulnerable infrastructure could be severely damaged. Widespread power outages are also feared.

The NDMA has advised residents to stay away from trees and unstable structures, keep vehicles parked in safe areas, and strictly avoid unnecessary travel during peak rainfall hours.

This latest NDMA warning underscores how fragile northern Punjab and Islamabad remain against extreme weather. Torrential rains, if coupled with landslides and power failures, could disrupt daily life on a massive scale. The next few hours are critical, and the authorities’ ability to respond swiftly will determine whether communities endure minimal damage or face widespread chaos.
